6 Reasons to Plan a Big Family Vacation to Arkansas

If you’ve never been to Arkansas, it’s time you visited.  Arkansas is the perfect site for big family vacations.  Here are six of the top things to do in Arkansas.

Greers Ferry Lake
1 – Visit the beach.  It might surprise people to think that a visit to land-locked Arkansas could mean beach-side fun.  But Arkansas has many rivers and lakes with very fun beaches.  And as Arkansas.com points out, fresh-water beaches mean no sharks, no jellyfish, and no crabs.

2 – Go hiking.  Arkansas is home to the Ozarks, and it contains miles upon miles of beautiful forests, mountains, and rivers.  Visitors can find beautiful hikes to match the abilities of both the old and the young.  Or, for a change of pace, you can explore much of the same nature by bike, ATV, or horse.

3 – Go spelunking.  Arkansas is beautiful above-ground, but it’s equally beautiful below-ground.  The Arkansas caves are filled with stalactites, stalagmites, and other eery, but beautiful rock formations.  Cave temperatures are constant year-round, making it great for both summer and winter vacations.

Hot Springs, Arkansas

4 – Visit Hot Springs.  The city of Hot Springs is a popular tourist destination.  In ancient times, Native Americans gathered here to make use of the area’s healing hot springs.  These days, people can still enjoy the power of the hot springs at bathhouses and spas.  In addition to this, families can enjoy art galleries, plays, shopping, hiking, biking, and more.  Plus, if you bring your own container, you can take some mineral water home with you for free.

5 – Pick your own berries.  Arkansas is home to a number of farms which allow visitors to come and pick their own berries for a fee.  This is always a big hit with kids.  Depending on the time of year, you can pick strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, blackberries, peaches, apples, and more.

6 – Fishing.  In Arkansas, you’ll find some absolutely great fishing spots.  The rivers and lakes are full of trout, bass, walleye, crappie, catfish, and more.  In fact, the world record brown trout was caught in Arkansas!  If you don’t know much about fishing, you can always try visiting a farm like Bear Creek Springs Trout Farm.  At places like this, no fishing license is required, bait and tackle are provided, and you only pay for what you catch.  Plus, at Bear Creek Springs, you can even have DeVito’s, the restaurant next door, cook your catch for you!

No matter where you go in Arkansas; Little Rock, Hot Springs, Eureka Springs, Rogers, or Texarkana, SixSuitcaseTravel can help you find accommodations for your big family.
