Mention Salt Lake City and most people think of the LDS church and Mormons. However there is much more to SLC than it’s Mormon history. In fact, only about half of its residents identify themselves as Mormon. And yes, you can get an adult beverage while in town.Whether your big family visits Salt Lake to enjoy the great outdoors (4 ski resorts are within an hour) or enjoy it’s museums and culture, the view of the Wasatch Front mountains are worth the visit. Deuel Pioneer Log Home – One of two original homes built by pioneers in 1847
Eagle Gate Monument – Erected in 1859 at the entrance to Brigham Young’s property which led to the mouth of City Creek Canyon.
Fairview Museum of History & Art
Fort Douglas Military Museum – Designated as a National Historical Landmark in 1970, explore over one hundred original structures from 1863 through World War II.
Governor’s Mansion (Kearns Mansion)
Great Salt Lake Shorelands Preserve – a unique system of salt and fresh water marshes, ponds, pools, sloughs and mudflats and a rich feeding ground for tens of thousands of migrating birds.
Hill Aerospace Museum Located on the northwest corner of Hill Air Force Base, Utah, about five miles south of Ogden. The museum exhibits more than 90 military aircraft, missiles, and aerospace vehicles on the grounds and inside.

Natural History Museum of Utah – Visit during one of the four free days a year
Pioneer Memorial Museum – Noted as the world’s largest collection of artifacts on one particular subject, and features displays and collections of memorabilia from the time the earliest settlers entered the Valley of the Great Salt Lake until the joining of the railroads at a location known as Promontory Point, Utah, on May 10, 1869.
Salt Lake Masonic Temple – free public tours of the Temple are available by prior arrangement
Temple Square – Guided tours and presentations feature historic sites, interactive exhibits, art displays, 70-mm films, parks and gardens.
The Family History Library Building
Utah Museum of Fine Arts – free the first Wednesday of every month, and also the third Saturday of each month with free art activities for families from 1-4 p.m.

The monument is free, although the historic village has an admission cost.
