Want to experience Barcelona with children but don´t know where to go to? Here are some things which are fun for you and your children.

Barcelona is a popular holiday destination and is known for having the total package. Besides the beautiful cultural sides, shopping facilities and amazing nightlife, the city has also enough to offer for children. The big underground metro system makes it possible to see the whole city without much walking. The city is interesting for every age and makes it therefore child friendly.

Starting off with an attraction where many children are amazed by the amount of different animals from the sea. The Barcelona aquarium takes you under water into the sea-life. This attraction is not only interesting for kids, but parents can be impressed with the water-world as well. It is also a good solution if the weather outside is too hot for your children.

Additionally, another attraction relating to animals would be the Zoo of Barcelona. Located in the city it is easily accessible and a good option in combination with other activities in the city. There is a wide range of different animals and there are several shows to attend. Shops and restaurants are also based which can entertain you for a whole day.

A more relaxing activity would be the beach. During the holiday season Barcelona has a warm and sunny period which is perfect for a day at the beach. Besides tanning, several activities can be executed on the beach such as sports and different games. There are enough restaurants and bars near the beach to eat and drink something. The harbour could also be an interesting place to visit.

Another place for relaxation that can be recommended is the park of Montjuïc. This large park, west of the centre, brings you nature and gets you out of the busy city centre. Several sports are being executed like walking and bicycling and there is enough space for children to play.

La Rambla is a busy boulevard where besides shops there are many street performances that make this street interesting. The street performers are dressed in the most impressive outfits. This is entertaining to see for all ages. Barcelona has so many interesting shops that for you and your children it is nice to have a look into the stores. Along the La Rambla many of these shops can be found. However, this street is known to be very crowded so it is recommended to keep your children close to you.

Finally, Camp Nou, Europe´s biggest football stadium and the home base of FC Barcelona. This place is great to see for sportive children and their parents. It is known to be one of the most impressive stadiums in the world. You can get a tour or experience the building on your own. You and your children will definitely enjoy your day here.

These are just a few of the many sights and attractions Barcelona has to offer which are interesting for all ages. Come and have a look at this fascinating and beautiful city.

Looking for a place to stay? For more information about Barcelona accommodation, then have a look at our website, which has an excellent selection of Barcelona apartments to rent.

Presidents’ Day. No work, no school. As we all know, Presidents’ Day is all about celebrating the birth and life of our first president, George Washington, and sixteenth president, Abraham Lincoln. But, how do we celebrate it?

We’ve come up with the top five places to go on Presidents’ Day for inspiration.

1. George Washington’s Birthplace- What better way to celebrate his birthday than where he was born? G.W. was born on his parent’s Pope’s Creek Estate near Colonial Beach in Westmoreland, Virginia. The spot currently is known as the George Washington Birthplace National Monument. Some features include a great nature walk, nice exhibits, and costumed interpreters. On February 20th the park plans a variety of activities to celebrate George’s birthday and the anniversary of the park. The visitor center and memorial historic area are open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Temperatures around this time are very cold so button up!

2. George Washington’s Home – Mount Vernon- George’s older half- brother and surrogate father, Lawrence Washington, inherited a plantation on the Potomac River which he later named Mount Vernon. When he died, he passed the plantation on to George. The houseis located near Alexandria, Virginia. Attractions at this location include the Ford Orientation Center, the Donald W. Reynold Education Center, an Interpretive Theater, and the mansion itself of course! There is also many shops and restaurants such as the Mount Vernon Inn Restaurant.

3. Abraham Lincoln’s Birthplace- It’s his day too! We all know the story of Abraham Lincoln being born in a log cabin but have you been there? The one room cabin is located in Sinking Spring Far in LaRue County, Kentucky. The house is now part of the Abraham Lincoln National Park. Experience the beautiful pristine waters of Sinking Spring and Knob Creek along with tons of wildlife in the hardwood forests of Central Kentucky. Also, let the kids participate in the park’s junior ranger’s program.

4. Lincoln Memorial- Located on the National Mall in Washington DC, the memorial was built from 1912-1922 to honor our 16th president, Abraham Lincoln. Made of marble, the memorial is open 24 hours a day. However park rangers are only available from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. The park has its own junior rangers program. Parking is at premium throughout the entire city of Washington, DC., we highly recommend that you use public transportation such as the Metro rail and Metro bus.

5. Mount Rushmore National Memorial- Don’t think that all the good attractions are on the east coast! Mount Rushmore is located near Keystone, South Dakota. The sculpture is of four of our great presidents, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln carved into the granite mountain face. Built from 1927-1941, the monument attracts 2 million people annually. One hike around the mountain reveals tons of wildlife and plants. The park has scheduled guided tours around the park, a Lakota, Nakota, and Dakota Indian village, and amphitheater.

That’s our top five! We would have added the Washington Monument; however due to the earthquake felt in DC in August 2011, the monument is closed for repairs. We hope this is helpful in planning your Presidents’ Day activities. :0)

Thanks to my daughter, Princess, for this post. We hope to see a lot more from her!

There’s nowhere in the world quite like Louisiana. The place has unique food, unique music, and a unique dedication to having a good time. Big families will love vacationing in the Pelican State.

New Orleans is one of the first places people think of when they think of Louisiana. There’s jazz, Cajun cooking, and an abundance of Southern charm. If you love music, stop by the New Orleans Jazz National Historical Park. If your kids love animals, take them to the city’s aquarium and zoo, or on a boat tour of Louisiana’s sprawling swamplands. Or if you’re in the mood for a different sort of tour, Tours by Isabelle offers a “Post Katrina Tour” which showcases both the sobering power of nature and the touching efforts of humanity to rebuild.

Just outside of New Orleans, you can find French Louisiana (also called Acadiana and Cajun Country). You can visit a meticulously preserved village in Lafayette to see what life was like in the 1800s. Treat your big family to some delicious and completely authentic Cajun food. And if you visit at the right time, you can catch the Festival International de Louisiane, where people can enjoy listening to good music while eating crawfish and other local delicacies.

If your big family likes boats and boating, stop by the New Orleans Steamboat Company, which operates the Steamboat Natchez. A tour on the Mississippi river’s last authentic steamboat is the perfect way to see the river, enjoy a good meal, and listen to some sweet jazz. Children under six can ride for free, although they have to pay for food.

If you’re feeling brave, you can take your children to Insta-Gator Ranch and Hatchery in Covington, where alligators are hatched and raised. Children can learn about alligators and even touch baby alligators. If you visit in August or early September, you may even be able to feel a gator egg hatch in your own hands. And you can also get pictures holding a four foot alligator (with its mouth taped shut), so you can scare grandma and grandpa.

Finally, Louisiana is the perfect place to celebrate Mardi Gras. Although certain places get a little wild, there are a lot of wonderful, family-friendly places to celebrate Mardi Gras in Louisiana. New Orleans, Mamou, Eunice, and Lake Charles all have wonderful Mardi Gras celebrations. If you ask the locals or the local tourism office, you can easily find where and how you can have a fun-filled, memorable, and family-friendly Mardi Gras.

Little Rock, Arkansas is a great large family educational destination. The city is home to many historical sites that are not expensive to visit. Here are six to get you started.

1. State Capital – Since Little Rock is the capital of Arkansas, a must-see is the capitol building. The building was started in 1899 and completed in 1915. Free scheduled tours are given from 9-4 on weekdays.

2. The William J. Clinton Presidential Center and Park is the presidential library of the 42nd president of the United States and is managed by the National Archives and Records Administration. It is located next to an 1899 Rock Island railroad bridge that is no longer in use and will eventually be used as a pedestrian bridge over the Arkansas River.

Admission is very inexpensive: $7 for adults, $5 for seniors, $5 for college students, $5 for retired military, $3 for children 6-17, and children under 6 are free.

3. Central High School – The site of the forced desegregation during the Civil Rights Movement in 1957 and now is listed on the National Register of Historical Places.

4. The MacArthur Museum of Arkansas Military History – Little Rock is the birthplace of General Douglas MacArthur, who was supreme commander of the United States forces in the Pacific during World War II. The MacArthur Museum of Arkansas Military History is located in the oldest remaining building of the original Little Rock Arsenal. The building was started in 1840 and has housed many organizations and two museums since its completion. Within the MacArthur Park Historical District can be found some of the oldest homes in the city. Some date before the Civil War. This area is also called the Quapaw Quarter so named for the Quapaw Indians who lived in the central Arkansas area before the arrival of the white man.

5. The Old State House Museum is housed in the Old State House. It is the oldest surviving capital building west of the Mississippi. It was constructed between 1833 and 1842. Admission to this museum is free.

6. The Arkansas River runs through the middle of Little Rock, and the River Market District was once a central place for the exchange of goods between farmers across the state. This tradition continues every Tuesday and Saturday. With all the new restaurants and bars, the River Market District is packed on Friday and Saturday nights.

If you have a big family and are looking for your next vacation destination, consider New Jersey. No matter what your family loves to do, you’ll find something for all of your children here.

The first stop on your trip should definitely be Wildwoods, located in Cape May County. This area has won an impressive number of awards from a variety of different organizations. Time.com included it in its list of 50 authentic American experiences. AOL.com included it in a list of the ten most fun and affordable American beaches. TripAdvisor voted Wildwoods the fourth best water park in America. And Bloomberg listed Wildwoods as the 12th most fun and affordable city in the United States.

At Wildwoods, you can enjoy sand, surf, and sun at prices that will match your family’s budget. There are five miles of beautiful beaches, and they’re all free. Or for a change of pace, you can also walk the Wildwoods boardwalk, which has over two miles’ worth of shops, restaurants, and carnival-style games. On the boardwalk, you’ll find intense roller coasters, rides for young children, and everything in between.

If you happen to visit Fairfield, your kids will love Jumpnasium. Jumpnasium’s 13,000 square foot arena contains bounce houses, inflatable obstacle courses, trampolines, and more. Some of the more intense and physically demanding attractions have height requirements. For example, the Slippery Rock Slide requires that children be 42” or taller. Some other rides require that children be at least 34” tall. But there are also a number of rides which have no height requirement at all. And Jumpnasium is affordable, too: during its Open Jump sessions, children cost $10.95, and adults are free.

And of course no family trip to New Jersey is complete without a visit to Six Flags. Located in Jackson, Great Adventure is the largest Six Flags park in the country. If you have thrill-seeking teens, they’ll love intense rides like Bizarro and Superman: Ultimate Flight. Your younger children will enjoy kid-themed rides like Bugaboo, Air Safari, and Bugs Bunny Barnstomper.

As if that weren’t enough, right next door is Six Flags Wild Safari, the biggest drive-through safari outside of Africa. Wild Safari’s 350 acres house over 1,000 animals, including lions, kangaroos, elephants, giraffes, and more.

Finally, you can cool down at Six Flags Hurricane Harbor, also in Jackson. Stop by and enjoy their million-gallon wave pool, or try one of the park’s many water slides. Or if you’d rather, simply lay back and float along the “Taak It Eez Ee Creek.”
