Major cities visited include New York City, Washington, DC, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Seattle. The family took advantage of multiple kinds of accommodation including hotels, cabins, rental homes, resorts, a ship, campgrounds, and relatives’ homes.

Enjoy the Midwest Meandering two-week road trip which added 8 states visited bringing the family total to 42. A mini-version of the previous road trip, this vacation includes a route through Nebraska, Colorado, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Arkansas, Missouri, and Illinois. Highlights include the Henry Doorly Zoo, Rocky National Park, and City Museum.

Then head off with them on their European Expedition road trip. Starting with a flight and layover in Iceland, they traveled to Germany, the Czech Republic, Austria, Italy, Greece, Croatia, Switzerland, and France. To enhance their travel time, they embarked on a Mediterranean cruise.

You’ll be inspired to pack up your crew and head out on the road whether for a long vacation or a weekend getaway. With strategic planning and scheduling, your family doesn’t need to take a gap year to see the world. Fantastic travel can be accomplished during the summer vacation months your children have off school.

Theresa Jorgensen is a mother to four children including twins. She recognized the necessity for a comprehensive resource of hotels that cater to big families with rooms and suites for 5, 6, 7, or 8 people in a single room while traveling with her own family. In 2008, she established SixSuitcaseTravel to compile a database of such hotels. Over time, the website has grown to include travel advice, itineraries, road trip suggestions, national park guides, and more. Theresa takes pleasure in assisting other big families in creating unforgettable travel experiences.
