3 Connecticut Destinations for Big Families

There are a lot of fun vacation possibilities in Connecticut.  In fact, there are so many that it can be hard to decide where you and your family want to go!  Here are three Connecticut destinations that big families are sure to love.

Mystic Aquarium1 – Mystic.  One of the state’s major tourist destinations, Mystic is home to a number of fun activities for families.  Children always love the Mystic Aquarium and Institute for Exploration.  At the aquarium, children can see beluga whales, African penguins, sea jellies, seals, and much more.  The sea lion shows are always a big hit, and if you time your trip right, you can even watch sharks or stingrays being fed.

Mystic is also home to a large maritime museum.  At Mystic Seaport families can see unique ships that have been painstakingly preserved.  They can also explore a re-created 1800s village, listen to songs inspired by the sea, learn about boat preservation, and much more.

from the outside2 – Hartford.  The state capitol is another popular vacation destination.  The Connecticut Science Center is a great way to have some fun while encouraging your children to learn.  Current exhibits include Animation, Ski Simulator, Exploring Space, and Invention Dimension.

Families can also enjoy quality dramatic productions at Goodspeed.  Goodspeed was where Man of La Mancha, Annie, and Shenandoah were first performed, and the theater continues to put on exciting shows today.  Regarded by many as “the home of the American Musical,” Godspeed is something your family will love.

Families with a literary bent should visit the Mark Twain House and Museum.  Visitors can visit the home where Mark Twain lived, see a pair of his spectacles, read a love letter from Twain to his wife, and more.

Ambler Farm Wilton CT3 – Fairfield.  The area surrounding Fairfield offers a variety of fun, kid-friendly activities.  Ambler Farm is a 200-year-old, still-functioning farm that welcomes visitors.  Throughout the year, the farm hosts fun and unique activities.  In February, there’s the Maple Syrup Tap-a-Tree, where visitors first help collect maple sap and then get to take home a bottle of maples syrup.  In the Fall, Ambler Farm Day allows kids to enjoy going on hay rides, making scarecrows, and more.

The Sports Center of Connecticut is also sure to be a winner.  The Sports Center offers laser tag, golf, ice skating, batting cages, bowling, an arcade, arts and crafts, and much more.  The facility is weather protected, making it perfect for a rainy day.  Of course, it’s pretty perfect on sunny days, too.
