Disney Cruise Search Allows Added Staterooms

Big Family Cruising on Disney Ships

Recently while checking out the Disney Cruise website, I noticed the search now allows you to add more staterooms after you pick your first stateroom.  This will allow you to easily book two rooms for your big family.

Some Disney ships do have staterooms that sleep 7 like the Disney Wonder.  I started playing with booking a stateroom on the Disney Wonder for a 7 night Mexican Riviera Cruise.  I picked out the furthest date possible, November 4, 2012, to improve my chances of booking a stateroom for 6.  I started by searching for 2 adults and 3 children.

One of the staterooms available was Concierge with Veranda which the site said sleeps 7.  Click on the upgrade/select stateroom and the opportunity is given to change guests or add a stateroom.  Thinking I could book just the one stateroom for 6, I opted to change the number of guests.  The site informed me that I could “add up to 2 guests to this stateroom subject to availability.”  Sweet!, I thought, big families will love this!  However when I tried to add one more person for the room to sleep six, I was told “maximum party mix has been exceeded”.  Bummer.

So while Disney has improved the ease of booking multiple staterooms for families that need more than one, the ease of booking the big staterooms that can accommodate big families is still almost impossible to do online.

But perhaps it’s for the best, booking two staterooms would cost around $6000 while one large stateroom for 6 runs around $13000.
