That gives us extra time in the SW of Colorado. We had planned on visiting <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nps.gov\/meve\/index.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mesa Verde National Park<\/a> but with the extra time, we were able to fit in another activity.<\/p>\n<p>We had been trying to go white water rafting since this trip started. The weather was too cold, and too rainy and the weight restrictions excluded Grace at a few places \u2013 so I honestly had kind of written it off. But after looking through brochures at the hotel, we found an outfit that offered family raft adventures for kids as young as 4 with the weight restriction low enough that Grace could go too!!<\/p>\n<p>Everyone was just thrilled! I called to be sure that it was going to be mild enough for the littles and wild enough for the big kids \u2013 and as the company was called <a href=\"http:\/\/mild2wildrafting.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mild to Wild<\/a> \u2013 it seemed just about perfect. It was a trip through the Animas River in Durango CO\u2026the rapids ranged from I to III \u2013 and they assured me it would be perfect for us all.<\/p>\n<p>We rented wet suits initially for just the kids (as they had suggested it for the littles \u2013 the water had been snow from the top of the mountains just days before and was still a chilly 50 degrees) &#8211; and then the bigger kids thought it would be a good idea and then I chickened out and got one too!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sixsuitcasetravel.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/wetsuits.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-8657\" src=\"https:\/\/sixsuitcasetravel.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/wetsuits.jpg\" alt=\"wetsuits\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sixsuitcasetravel.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/wetsuits.jpg 800w, https:\/\/sixsuitcasetravel.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/wetsuits-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We had THE BEST tour guide \u2013 he was hilarious AND he looked like Liam Hemsworth (Gail in the Hunger games!)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sixsuitcasetravel.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/liam.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-8654\" src=\"https:\/\/sixsuitcasetravel.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/liam.jpeg\" alt=\"liam hemsworth\" width=\"199\" height=\"199\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sixsuitcasetravel.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/liam.jpeg 400w, https:\/\/sixsuitcasetravel.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/liam-150x150.jpeg 150w, https:\/\/sixsuitcasetravel.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/liam-300x300.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/sixsuitcasetravel.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/liam-60x60.jpeg 60w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 199px) 100vw, 199px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The trip was a riot \u2013 all the kids had fun and they even got to jump in and play in the water for a bit. One of the best activities of the entire trip!!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sixsuitcasetravel.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/whitewaterraftcollage.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-8656\" src=\"https:\/\/sixsuitcasetravel.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/whitewaterraftcollage.jpg\" alt=\"whitewaterraftcollage\" width=\"700\" height=\"1000\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sixsuitcasetravel.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/whitewaterraftcollage.jpg 700w, https:\/\/sixsuitcasetravel.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/whitewaterraftcollage-210x300.jpg 210w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>After that, we still had time for a trip through the park. This was a pretty amazing historical site. It is the preserved sites of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nps.gov\/meve\/historyculture\/people.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Native American peoples<\/a> dating back 1500 years \u2013 from the initial pit homes (the first settlements as the peoples moved from hunter to gatherer), to pueblos as they advanced, to these absolutely amazing <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nps.gov\/meve\/historyculture\/cliff_dwellings_home.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">cliff side communities<\/a> preserved from about 1300 AD.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sixsuitcasetravel.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/mesaverdecollage.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-8658\" src=\"https:\/\/sixsuitcasetravel.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/mesaverdecollage.jpg\" alt=\"mesaverdecollage\" width=\"700\" height=\"1261\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sixsuitcasetravel.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/mesaverdecollage.jpg 1665w, https:\/\/sixsuitcasetravel.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/mesaverdecollage-167x300.jpg 167w, https:\/\/sixsuitcasetravel.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/mesaverdecollage-568x1024.jpg 568w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I didn\u2019t realize how well they were preserved \u2013 it was so interesting to see.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sixsuitcasetravel.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/scoloradokids.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-8659\" src=\"https:\/\/sixsuitcasetravel.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/scoloradokids.jpg\" alt=\"scoloradokids\" width=\"700\" height=\"466\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sixsuitcasetravel.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/scoloradokids.jpg 800w, https:\/\/sixsuitcasetravel.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/scoloradokids-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>(Love G&#8217;s face &#8211; she was mad because Scott wouldn&#8217;t let her run around at the edge of the cliffs &#8211; she kills me! She was fine 1 minute later!)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sixsuitcasetravel.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/happygrace.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-8660\" src=\"https:\/\/sixsuitcasetravel.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/happygrace.jpg\" alt=\"happygrace\" width=\"700\" height=\"466\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sixsuitcasetravel.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/happygrace.jpg 800w, https:\/\/sixsuitcasetravel.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/happygrace-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We also got to see a jack rabbit and a great big buck right next to us on the road.
