Hotel Details
Lake of the Woods, located in Ontario Canada, is a giant, dwarfing most lakes in both the United States and Canada. It is vast, purely natural, and very old, a remnant of prehistoric Lake Agissiz, a lake that once spanned the center of North America. Today, at a fraction of that original size, it still spreads over 1,679 square miles and its shoreline is 25,000 miles long - over twice as long if you count the shorelines of the 14,552 islands.
Although the lake rests partly in Minnesota and partly in the lower, and rather well populated, portions of Ontario and Manitoba, its massiveness keeps it remote. After you launch a houseboat onto that flat, endless plain of water, you may not run into another person until you return. What you will run across are animals, beasts and birds from bears to deer to White Pelicans, on the shores and on those thousands of islands. Even the tiny islands are often occupied by creatures.
