The Norwegian Gem is a 2300+ passenger cruise liner with a casual feel. This 15 deck ship travels to destinations in the Bahamas, Caribbean, and New England/ Canada regions. With departure ports varying between New York, Boston, and Los Angeles. The Gem travels on journeys of 7, 10, 11, 13, and 14 nights which are great for filling long school vacations and summers.
Kids can swim the day away in the Tahitian inspired main pool with four whirlpools. As with most Norwegian cruise liners, the kids and teens clubs, Splash Academy and Leopard Lounge respectively, are a huge hit. The kids' clubs set up activities, games, and other fun events for youngsters. The teen club features air hockey, dance parties, and a murder mystery dinner.
For parents and older passengers, the Gem has more than enough entertainment options to keep you busy for a 14 day trip (so many, you may not even get to try them all!) An after hours, adults only scavenger hunt brings out the competitiveness in even the most mild mannered guests and the Ying-Yang spa is sure to finally get out that knot in your back.
Daily fun activities are present all over the ship including games like giant chess, theater performances, dance classes, and a four-lane bowling alley. While there is no adult only pools, a pair of whirlpools are reserved for older passengers. The onboard casino and numerous lounges add up to an exciting date night will no kids. For those who are able to stay up later, the Gem offers a variety of spots to enjoy long after sunset. For parents, group babysitting is available on board for those in need of alone time.
Each ship has a variety of fun activities for the whole family, so be sure to check your ship before you cruise to view what's available. Whether you're 8 or 80, there's no reason not to have fun on your getaway at sea; before breaking off into everyone's activities, enjoy some time together by planning to meet for breakfast, lunch or dinner.
This is the time to make memories and nothing could be more memorable than setting up a shore excursion for the whole family. Plan your shore excursions ahead of time for the best chance at booking your top selections.
*Please note that it is often cheaper to book two staterooms or two connecting cabins instead of one large stateroom suite - plus it gives you a second bathroom.*
