10 Oklahoma State Parks with Big Family Cabins

The Oklahoma State Parks was first founded in 1937 with the opening of Lake Murray State Park. Today there are more than 30 state parks. Of those, 10 offer cabins that will sleep big families. Some parks have cabins to sleep 6, some 8, and one has a cabin that sleeps 14. The parks offer a great way for your big family to enjoy the outdoors with fishing, swimming, hiking, and more.

Beavers Bend State Park

Beavers Bend State Park is located in the mountainous region of southeast Oklahoma along the shores of Broken Bow Lake and the Mountain Fork River. Recreation opportunities offer the 18 hole Cedar Creek Golf Course, hiking, biking and nature trails, trout fishing, water skiing, nature center activities, river float trips, paddleboats, bumper boats and canoeing, horseback riding, picnic sites, hayrides, and train rides. Other activities available include tennis, volleyball, and mini-golf. Picnic areas are also scattered throughout the area. An amphitheater, gift shop, grocery, restaurant, and the Forest Heritage Center can also be found within Beavers Bend State Park.

Great Salt Plains State Park

The Great Salt Plains Lake is located at the park and covers 8,690 surface acres with 41 miles of shoreline and is a shallow, salty lake. Visitors can take their pick of activities in the park, such as swimming in Great Salt Plains Lake or trekking along bike trails. Fishing at the lake is fun for the entire family, whether in a boat or onshore. You can also bring your canoe or kayak and enjoy a trip around the lake viewing the many migratory birds that pass through the area. The selenite crystal dig area is located southwest of the lake in the Salt Plains National Wildlife Refuge and is open from April 1 to October 15 from sunrise to sunset.

Greenleaf State Park

Tucked away in the hills of eastern Oklahoma, Greenleaf State Park offers spectacular scenery and is a family-friendly state park. Guests will also enjoy the swimming pool, swim beach, heated fishing dock, amphitheater, nature center, reunion center, playgrounds, hiking trails, horseshoes, volleyball court, and basketball courts. The park naturalist offers astronomy programs, campfire programs, party barge tours of Greenleaf Lake, and hay wagon rides as well as arts & crafts, storytelling, nature hikes, mountain biking, and more.

The park has 16 cabins, one cabin will sleep up to eight guests between two-bedroom. The cabin has a bathroom, kitchen with full-size appliances, heat, and air. Dishes, cooking utensils, linens, and towels are also provided. There are fireplaces in 10 of the cabins. All cabins have satellite television. The cabins are approximately 350 square feet in size. The park also has the “Cabin on the Lake,” designed to meet the challenges of the physically disabled. Pets are allowed in all cabins for a small nightly fee. Firewood is available for purchase and firewood is not provided to cabins.

Keystone State Park

Keystone State Park is located in northeast Oklahoma, just west of Tulsa, on picturesque Keystone Lake. Pier 51 Marina offers boat and equipment rentals as well as fuel, groceries, and other boating necessities. Visitors can enjoy fishing (striper, walleye, bass, and catfish), boating, water skiing, and swimming. Keep the kids entertained with a visit to the children’s fishing pond or the park’s playgrounds.

Lake Murray State Park

Lake Murray State Park is Oklahoma’s first and largest state park consisting of 12,500 acres of forested, rolling hills around beautiful Lake Murray. Outdoor activities include golf, picnicking, camping, trail riding, hayrides, hiking, swimming, miniature golf, and paddle boating. Sports facilities include a golf course, tennis courts, and softball and baseball fields. There are nearly 1,000 acres of trails for ATVs, motorcycles, and dirt bikes. The Tucker Tower Nature Center features local artifacts, nature programs, and activities conducted by the state park naturalist. A marina with boat rentals is located nearby, and Lake Country Store is on-site with convenience items.

Lake Wister State Park

Located near the beautiful Ouachita National Forest, Lake Wister State Park in southeast Oklahoma offers 115 miles of scenic shoreline. Park activities include hiking, camping, biking, boating, and water skiing on the 7,300 surface acres of Lake Wister. Kids will love the water spray park. Hiking trails include a self-guided nature trail and a 6.4-mile hiking trail.

2 BR Sleeps 6 Lakeview – The park’s one or two-bedroom cabins, surrounded by groves of dogwood, wild cherry, and northern spruce, accommodate four to six guests and feature one to two queen-size beds in each bedroom with linens, sleeper sofas, and a 32-inch flat-screen TV. Each cabin also comes complete with a kitchen, restroom with shower, and air conditioning. Two cabins have accessible main and bathroom entrances, and pets are welcome to stay in a select number of cabins at the park for a daily pet fee.

Osage Hills State Park

Located just west of Bartlesville in the heart of the Osage Nation in northeast Oklahoma, Osage Hills State Park is a prime example of Oklahoma’s natural beauty. The 1,100-acre park offers lush forests, rocky bluffs, and serene waters. Enjoy hiking and mountain bike trails, fishing, and swimming. Fishing boats are available for rent. Park amenities include a swimming pool, hiking trails, ball field, and tennis court.

2 BR SLEEPS 6 PARKVIEW -The cabin has central heat and air, a fireplace, kitchen facilities and allows pets for a small nightly fee. The park offers a picnic area and picnic pavilions, as well as comfort stations and a facility with modern bathhouses.

Robbers Cave State Park

In the scenic, hilly woodlands of the Sans Bois Mountains of southeast Oklahoma, Robbers Cave State Park is an 8,246-acre park with 189 combined lake acres with Lake Carlton, Lake Wayne Wallace, and Coon Creek. The park and adjoining wildlife management area offer acres of outdoor fun including caves, trout fishing in season, boating, hunting, trails for hikers and horses, sandstone cliffs for climbing and rappelling, and fall foliage viewing. Park amenities include picnic tables, comfort stations with showers, boat ramps, a swimming beach, swimming pool with bathhouse, playgrounds, miniature golf, hiking trails, paddleboat rentals, and a nature center with naturalist programs/exhibits.

Sequoyah State Park is a great destination for water lovers and outdoor enthusiasts. With over 19,000 surface acres of water and 225 miles of shoreline on Fort Gibson Lake, the park attracts boaters and beach-goers. Visitors enjoy hiking, picnicking, guided horseback trail rides, wildlife watching, nature center activities, golf and disc-golf, fishing, and camping. Tire the kids out at the zero-entry swimming pool and children’s splash pad in the lodge courtyard or find your place in the sun at a lakeside swim beach. Tenkiller State Park

The park’s sparkling blue waters of Lake Tenkiller offer water an abundance of recreational opportunities between 130 miles of shoreline and 13,000 surface acres. Outdoor facilities include a volleyball court, basketball court, two playground areas, four group picnic pavilions, and 172 picnic tables. The outdoor swimming pool is available to all guests for a small fee and includes a water slide, handicap-accessible restrooms, and lounge chairs.
