Big Family Cabins at State Parks – a 50 state list

Discover cozy cabin retreats in state parks across the country. Find the perfect getaway for your big family, from rustic charm to modern comforts. Explore cabin rentals and state park accommodations that sleep your family with 3, 4, 5, 6 kids. Enjoy the outdoors with your family and support your state park.

We’ve researched all 50 states to find state parks with cabins or villas to sleep big families of 5, 6, 7, 8. Occasionally, parks will have cabins to sleep large families of 9, 10, 11, 12, though most options sleep 6-8.

The following states do not have parks with cabins that accommodate big families of six or more: Kansas, Maine, Massachusetts, New Mexico, Nevada, Rhode Island, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.

In Illinois, Starved Rock State Park offers two-room family pioneer cabins that can sleep up to seven people. Montana’s Flathead Lake State Park has one yurt available that sleeps six. In Vermont, all cabins technically allow six occupants, but they only provide beds for four, with the extra two needing to sleep on the floor or in a tent outside.

Some state parks rival the beauty of national parks. Plan a weekend or weeklong vacation at a nearby state park and show your support for these local gems!

She recognized the necessity for a comprehensive resource of hotels that cater to big families with rooms and suites for 5, 6, 7, or 8 people in a single room while traveling with her own family. In 2008, she established SixSuitcaseTravel to compile a database of such hotels. Over time, the website has grown to include travel advice, itineraries, road trip suggestions, national park guides, and more. Theresa takes pleasure in assisting other big families in creating unforgettable travel experiences.
