Ultimate Road Trip Kids – Canyonlands National Park

We were up early again as the hot desert sun is not conducive to sleeping in…(seriously I NEEDED air conditioning, a shower, and a bed!! – in that order –lol)

We hiked up to one last arch on our way out of the park…but also saw one along the road to Canyonlands National Park ….so pretty.

We stopped for lunch and played at a playground…just so happens there was a skate park and the kids all thought that would be fun – so Scott (being the excellent father that he is) unloaded the topper to get the scooters for them. They scootered and we ate and all was good in the world.

We drove into Canyonlands National Park in the afternoon and as they are also in the desert – we weren’t much better off than our middle of the daytime in Arches the day before. We didn’t stay long as the heat had taken its toll. We did take a drive throughout the park, saw the Needles, completed the Junior Ranger program, and had just a short drive to our hotel.

We got to the hotel that we had booked and they had no electricity due to an outage. Nada…The entire town had no electricity. The shopkeepers were just sitting in front of the shops…no one seemed to think this was a problem…except me (remember priority one – air conditioning??)

So, I told them we would not be staying, and could they please just credit our account for a cancellation…but as it was less than the 24 hours minimum cancellation time they told me they could NOT refund my money. WHAT?? I called customer service who also could not help me as they could not reach the hotel (as they do not have any services in that town…phones were useless). It did end up being credited to our card but it was quite the ordeal.

We drove ahead to the next planned stop (Colorado) and found a room which was half the price as the one with no electricity (yay) and that left us with no travel time for the next day which was good but we had also found many new things to include in our itinerary –which is bad. LOL
